Importing a vehicle into Cameroon requires complying with several formalities — vehicle age, certificates, duties and taxes. Here is the step-by-step guide updated for 2026.
Eligibility conditions
- Passenger vehicles: less than 8 years old since first registration.
- Light commercial vehicles: less than 10 years old.
- Heavy vehicles (> 3.5 t): no age limit but reinforced technical inspection.
Beyond these thresholds, the vehicle may be refused at customs or face significant surcharges.
Required documents
- Bill of Lading in the importer’s name.
- Detailed commercial invoice (make, model, year, VIN, value).
- Registration certificate from the country of origin.
- Conformity certificate or technical certificate depending on origin.
- SYDONIA pre-declaration filed before arrival.
Fees to anticipate
| Item | Estimate |
|---|---|
| Customs duties | 10 to 30% of CIF value |
| VAT | 19.25% on (CIF value + duties) |
| Withholding tax | 1 to 5% |
| Vignette + registration | Variable based on engine size |
Worth noting: hybrid and electric vehicles have benefited since 2025 from a reduction in duties under the CEMAC energy transition policy.
