China is one of the main supply sources for Cameroonian businesses and traders: industrial equipment, electronics, textiles, hardware, building materials, spare parts, consumer goods, machinery and many other products.
Buying in China is only part of the operation. To control the real cost of an import into Cameroon, you must anticipate international transport, documents, any conformity checks, the BESC, customs formalities in CAMCIS and port charges in Douala or Kribi.
This guide covers the main steps of an import from Guangzhou, Yiwu, Shenzhen, Ningbo or other Chinese hubs to Cameroon in 2026.
How much does a China–Cameroon import cost in 2026?
There is no single tariff to move and clear goods from China to Cameroon. Total cost depends on volume, weight, the nature of the goods, the HS code, the mode of transport, the Incoterm, the port of departure, the port of arrival and freight-market conditions.
- Collection and pre-carriage in China: transport from the factory or supplier to the port, airport or consolidation warehouse.
- Ocean or air freight: full FCL 20'/40' container, LCL consolidation billed mainly on volume, or air freight generally billed on chargeable weight.
- Transport insurance: treatment depends on the Incoterm and the contract. The electronic insurance certificate is among the prior formalities listed by Cameroon Customs.
- BESC: for the maritime cargoes concerned.
- PECAE: when the goods fall under a category subject to the Pre-Export Conformity Assessment Programme.
- Port or airport charges: handling, terminal, storage and possible demurrage.
- Customs duties and taxes: determined mainly from CIF value and tariff classification.
- Licensed customs broker fees: preparation, declaration, follow-up and release operations.
- Final haulage: from the port or airport to the warehouse or the client's address.
ALC Transit does not publish a fixed China–Cameroon price: ocean and air rates can change with the season, the carrier, space, the origin port and the type of cargo. A quote based on the invoice, packing list, weight and volume is more reliable.
Simplified duties-and-taxes example
Take a pedagogical example of goods subject to 20% customs duty, with no excise duty and no special tax regime.
- FOB value: XAF 10,000,000
- Freight + items entering CIF value: XAF 2,000,000
- CIF value used in the example: XAF 12,000,000
| Line | Rate | Simplified base | Amount |
|---|---|---|---|
| Customs duty | 20% | XAF 12,000,000 | XAF 2,400,000 |
| VAT, including CAC | 19.25% | XAF 14,400,000 | XAF 2,772,000 |
| IT fee | 1% | XAF 12,000,000 | XAF 120,000 |
| Simplified total | — | — | XAF 5,292,000 |
The general 19.25% VAT rate already includes municipal additional cents (CAC): do not add another 10% CAC on top of VAT already calculated at 19.25%.
For how the taxable base is built, see our guide on CIF value in CAMCIS.
This simulation is not a final liquidation. The real result can change with the HS code, tariff category, possible excise duties, exemptions, other levies, the value retained by the administration and specific formalities.
When the operation falls under the Import Verification Programme, separate fees may apply. SGS notably indicates verification fees equivalent to 0.95% of the declared FOB value under its Cameroon import verification programme.

What are the timelines between China and Cameroon?
Timelines depend heavily on the Chinese port, the shipping line, routing, possible transshipments and vessel availability.
- Air freight: about 5 to 10 days depending on the service.
- Ocean freight: several weeks; confirm the transit time at booking.
- Clearance: variable depending on file quality, the type of goods, controls applied and port operations.
A documentary file prepared before the vessel arrives strongly reduces the risk of holds, storage and demurrage.
FCL, LCL or air freight: which option?
FCL — full container
FCL (Full Container Load) reserves a container for a single cargo. It suits larger volumes or goods for which the importer wants fewer intermediate handlings. The most common formats are 20-foot and 40-foot / 40-foot High Cube.
LCL — ocean consolidation
LCL (Less than Container Load) shares a container with other shippers. Cost depends on volume, weight, cargo type, the Chinese port, consolidation fees and deconsolidation at destination. See also how to optimise LCL.
Air freight
Air freight is better for urgent, low-volume or high-value goods, or when immobilisation cost justifies a faster delivery.
Choose between LCL, FCL and air on the total landed cost in Cameroon, not on international freight alone.

Which documents to prepare before importing from China?
- Supplier commercial invoice
- Packing list
- Ocean bill of lading (B/L) or air waybill (AWB)
- Import Declaration documents when required
- RVC when the operation is subject to it
- Electronic insurance certificate
- BESC for the maritime cargoes concerned
- PECAE certificate / attestation when the product is subject to it
- Licences, authorisations or technical visas for certain goods
Tariff classification is decisive. See our CAMCIS and HS code guide before shipping a regulated product. For a vehicle or plant, the calculation is different: see vehicle and construction-equipment clearance.
BESC: what is required for a maritime import?
The Electronic Cargo Tracking Note (BESC) is managed by the Cameroon National Shippers' Council. For online import, the procedure currently runs through the CNCC BESC platform.
CNCC states that a BESC submitted at least two days before the vessel's arrival can follow the normal validation procedure. A late submission may trigger regularisation and the applicable penalty.
For current documents and rules, see BESC Cameroon: CNCC procedure.
PECAE / ANOR: check conformity before loading
PECAE covers product categories on the applicable list published by ANOR. For goods subject to the programme, assessment must be anticipated before loading for Cameroon. Technical partners often cited: SGS, Intertek and TÜV Rheinland.
The PECAE product list can change: check the exact HS code before shipment. ALC has also published a full PECAE / ANOR guide.
Alibaba to Cameroon: how to organise the import?
Alibaba helps find suppliers; it does not replace logistics and customs organisation.
- Ask for a detailed pro forma invoice.
- Confirm weight and volume.
- Check the presumed HS code.
- Determine whether the product is subject to PECAE or an authorisation.
- Choose the Incoterm precisely.
- Obtain a freight and clearance estimate before shipment.

FOB, FCA, CIF or DDP?
FOB and FCA generally give the importer more control over the choice of forwarder and main carriage. CIF can be convenient but you must identify remaining charges at destination. DDP must be checked carefully: official importer, declarant, duties and taxes included, charges at destination.
Go deeper: FOB or CIF in Cameroon and the full Incoterms guide.
Guangzhou, Yiwu, Shenzhen or Ningbo: which origin?
- Guangzhou: textiles, accessories, equipment, electronics and consumer goods.
- Yiwu: wholesale markets, bazaar, small accessories, hardware, small tools.
- Shenzhen: electronics, components, technology equipment and industrial products.
- Ningbo: major industrial and port hub, relevant for suppliers in eastern China.
The best logistics origin is not always Guangzhou: a poor choice of Chinese port can add unnecessary pre-carriage.
Douala or Kribi: which port?
Port of Douala — Douala has a large historical logistics ecosystem and can be practical when the final destination is Douala or areas easily served from the economic capital.
Port of Kribi — Kribi is a deep-water port able to receive large container ships and can be an alternative depending on the line, routing, freight, port charges and final destination.
ALC recommends comparing the full cost: freight + port passage + on-carriage. See also the Douala Port clearance guide.
Mistakes to avoid when importing from China
- Ordering without knowing the product's HS code
- Shipping a PECAE product without anticipating conformity
- Choosing an Incoterm only because the supplier price looks cheaper
- Not checking charges at destination
- Issuing the BESC late
- Underestimating weight or volume
- Accepting an imprecise commercial invoice
- Shipping before estimating duties and taxes
- Waiting for the vessel to arrive before sending the file to the customs broker
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
How much does 1 m³ of China–Cameroon LCL cost?
The rate depends on the Chinese port, the season, volume, weight and the nature of the goods. A quote based on actual dimensions and the packing list is more reliable than a generic price.
How much does a 20- or 40-foot container from China to Cameroon cost?
FCL rates move with the ocean market and the carriers. Distinguish ocean freight from the total landed cost in Cameroon.
How long does a ship take from China to Cameroon?
Count several weeks in most cases. The actual transit time depends on the Chinese port, the Cameroonian port, the carrier, the routing and transshipments.
What documents are needed to import from China to Cameroon?
Commercial invoice, packing list, B/L or AWB and, depending on the file, DI, RVC, insurance, BESC, PECAE and technical authorisations.
How do you import from Alibaba to Cameroon?
Obtain the supplier invoice, packing list, weight and volume; have regulatory constraints checked, choose the Incoterm and get a quote before shipment.
Which products are subject to PECAE?
The list is defined and updated by ANOR. The safest approach is to check the product's HS code against the official applicable list before loading.
FOB, CIF or DDP: which one to choose?
There is no ideal Incoterm for every situation. FOB/FCA generally give more control; CIF and DDP must be analysed to see which charges are actually included.
Should you choose Douala or Kribi?
It depends on the ocean line, freight cost, port charges and the final destination. Compare the full logistics cost.
