You need to plan transport, documents, vehicle identification, customs value, the declaration and related charges. Cameroon Customs now uses CAMCIS as its customs information system — not SYDONIA.

Before you buy the vehicle

Before any payment, gather the essential information:

  • make;
  • model;
  • VIN / chassis number;
  • powertrain;
  • engine capacity;
  • date of first registration;
  • mileage;
  • condition;
  • country of origin;
  • purchase price;
  • place of departure.

These details make a serious logistics and customs simulation possible.

RO-RO or container?

RO-RO — the vehicle travels as a rolling unit. This option can suit many operational vehicles.

Container — the vehicle is loaded in a container. This can be chosen when the importer wants a different mode of transport or when it better matches the available shipping line.

Cost must be compared case by case.

Documents to prepare

Depending on the operation, the file may require:

  • transport document / bill of lading;
  • purchase invoice;
  • foreign registration certificate;
  • identification document;
  • the importer’s tax details;
  • BESC when applicable;
  • documents required by the administrations concerned.

The exact list must be checked before shipment. A licensed customs broker checks VIN / invoice / registration consistency before departure.

Value and customs duties

The port choice depends on the shipping line, the port of loading, available services, the final destination in Cameroon, tariff conditions and the type of transport used.
